  • Tech Duo Take on London to Sheffield Bike Ride.

    June 30, 2023

    NEWS RELEASE

Sheffield Tech Experts Saddle Up for London to Scotland Bike Ride in Aid of Cavendish Cancer Care.

Tech experts Paul Ridgway and Andrew Sherwin, from Sheffield based Curve Consulting, are completing the mammoth challenge of cycling 500 miles over 6 days from London to St Andrews in Scotland to raise money for local Sheffield cancer charity, Cavendish Cancer Care.

Starting from St Paul’s Cathedral in London on September 8th and finishing up at St Andrew’s Golf Club, the duo will average 82 miles a day on their voyage North. Their grand ride will come through Sheffield on Saturday 9th September where they will be greeted by colleagues, family and friends to cheer them on for the remainder of their ride. The ride is expected to finish at St Andrews on September 14th.

Andrew will be visiting his hometown of Skipton as part of the ride and will be joined by his son Arthur, aged 7, for part of the journey. Arthur even got a new bike for the occasion, courtesy of Frog Bikes, where the Co-Founder Shelley Lawson wrote to him to wish him luck and sent a goodie bag!

Paul said of his mammoth challenge, “Cavendish Cancer Care is our charity partner and since we love a challenge, especially one involving cycling, we thought this would be a great fundraiser to support the amazing work of Cavendish.”
“The start and finish locations came from our names – Paul for St Paul’s and St Andrew’s for Andrew – and this whole mad idea progressed from there! We’re hoping for lots of support for our tired legs en-route and any donations people can spare, which can be donated via our Just Giving page.”

Paul and Andrew are calling on support from local businesses to sponsor their challenge and raise as much money as possible for Cavendish Cancer Care. Just £28 donated would fund an hour of therapy at their centre on Wilkinson Street, where they provide complementary therapy and counselling support for people affected by cancer.

Kirsty White, Partnerships Manager at Cavendish, says, “Support from businesses like The Curve is a lifeline to us as a small charity. We receive enough statutory funding that would keep our doors open for two weeks a year, and every other penny raised is through the generosity of our supporters like Paul and Andrew. Cancer affects 1 in 2 people, and to have a service like Cavendish provide much needed therapy free of charge is a huge asset to the region.”
