  • Rebecca’s Great Yorkshire Run

    September 24, 2015

Rebecca_Barrett_28Rebecca Barrett, 28 from Beauchief, is running the Great Yorkshire Run to thank Cavendish Cancer Care for the support they gave to her family.

Around eight years ago Rebecca’s mum, Jackie, then 49, was diagnosed with breast cancer. During that time she turned to Cavendish for support.

Rebecca, who works for HSBC in their Hoyle Street building, said: “Cancer is a horrible thing for a family to face and it hit us hard. I was away at University at the time in Liverpool. Around this time, my family turned to Cavendish for support. Since then, Mum got better and we’ve raised more money for the charity in lots of different ways. We’ve held balls and dances, baked cakes and now I’m running 10k this weekend!”

“I’m not exactly a keen runner – I only started training in February, but I’m determined to do this for my Mum. Over the last few years I’ve lost four stone and I never imagined I could do something like this. Now, with the support of family and friends I can do it and I can raise money for a charity so close to my heart at the same time.”

So far, Rebecca’s fundraising has reached over £500 and her employers HSBC have agreed to match her funding up to another £500. To sponsor Rebecca, head to: www.justgiving.com/Rebecca-Barrett1/
