  • Norrie Waite and Slater’s donation supports over 36 people

    February 2, 2023

Norrie Waite and Slater have made an incredible difference to those locally affected by cancer, to help us reach more people and ensure no one faces cancer alone.

Their recent donation from residual client balances will fund over 216 hours of therapy for our clients affected by cancer. With more and more of our clients needing our support, in dealing with not only physical impacts of cancer but mental and physiological effects too, we are preparing to be there for those who need us, now more than ever.

Cavendish have been providing support for cancer patients and their loved ones for over 30 years from their home on Wilkinson Street. Their services are often a ‘life-line’ at such a difficult time. Therapies such as counselling, reflexology, hypnotherapy and acupuncture are available free of charge for anyone affected by cancer. They also offer a Young People’s Service, supporting children from the age of 3 through art therapy and play therapy.

This donation from Norrie Waite and Slater will be used to continue providing this therapy but also opportunities for developing other areas of our care, working with our clients and local healthcare partners to ensure we are able to meet the needs of those who need us.

“We are incredibly grateful to Norrie Waite and Slater for supporting Cavendish in this way. Donations like this make a huge impact on the organisation and ensure that no one faces cancer alone. These donations have a significant impact on planning and developing the most impact through our work. On behalf of the families we support, thank you for choosing Cavendish Cancer Care.”

    Kirsty White, Partnerships Manager

Small amounts of money are lying untouched in dormant client accounts that could add up to a significant amount for Cavendish Cancer Care; a process which is simple and approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). In 2014, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) increased the limit of unclaimed funds from £50 to £500 which can be paid to charity without SRA permission. These funds potentially represent a significant contribution towards the work of Cavendish Cancer Care.

Unclaimed client account balances are sums of money which lie dormant in the client account of many firms of solicitors, often untouched for years. It may be that the rightful owner cannot be traced, or perhaps they will not provide instructions on how the funds should be dealt with. An attempt may have been made to return the monies to the client, but the cheque has remained un-cashed. Regardless of their age or origin, these balances can all be disposed of cost-effectively.

If you or your organisation would like to discuss donating your Residual Client Balance to Cavendish Cancer Care, and the impact this will have, please do not hesitate to contact Kirsty on k.white@cavcare.org.uk
