  • Information for Sheffield Together entrants

    September 21, 2015

    SPO_2796S webMeeting point/start & finish
The meeting point/start of the run is the playing fields off Limb Lane, Whirlow. The Sheffield Together  starts at 11.00am please arrive in plenty of time to park and warm up. If you know someone who hasn’t signed up please signpost them to the website www.sheffieldtogether.co.uk as this will be taking entries until the day.

    Sponsorship
As a local independent charity Cavendish Cancer Care is almost wholly funded by the generosity of local people. The care, support and counselling that cancer patients and their families receive is provided on a free of charge basis and this would not be possible with people like you fundraising for us.

We are extremely grateful for your support but undertaking the run is no mean feet and worthy of sponsorship from friends, colleagues and family. If you have requested a sponsor form you should have received these via email or post. If you have not and would like to download one, they can be found here.  If you wish to set up a Sheffield Together  Just Giving page to get online donations you can do so by clicking this link: Just Giving.

Your entry fee covers all the costs associated with the race so every penny raised in sponsorship will go to support local people affected by cancer (please remember to get your entry fee payment to us a.s.a.p or call 0114 278 4600 to make a card payment) Your sponsorship money could provide:

    • £25 for an acupuncture session for a cancer patient to relieve nausea
    • £40 for an initial counselling appointment with a trained assessor
    • £225 will support one person through our bereavement group
    • £320 will provide one complete course of therapy for one person
    • £345 will provide a programme of play therapy for a child affected by cancer

And if you are feeling really motivated £8000 will keep us open for a whole week

    How to get there
A625 Ecclesall Road South/Hathersage Road will take you to Limb Lane. There is a track (suitable for cars) opposite the HSBC sports ground which will take you to a small car park. The run will start from that area. Additional parking can be found further along Limb Lane on the left where there is another car park adjacent to a picnic area – the start point is a 5 minute walk back through the wood (do not walk back along Limb Lane as it is not suitable for pedestrians)

    Facilities
There are limited facilities at the meeting point. There will be a portaloo facility for those needing it. Bring a change of clothes on the day if you intend staying on after the run at the Rising Sun pub or you will be going home in dirty running gear!

    Baggage
If you need to leave bags there is a storage facility at the start/finish. Please  note the organisers cannot be responsible for bags and items and they are left at the owners own risk. Don’t leave valuable items.

    The Route
The run starts from the playing field and moves into Ecclesall Woods. The woods follow a mix of trails and paths and the route will be signposted and marshaled on the day. There will be a water station at the half way point. It is your choice if you do 1 lap or 2 laps of the course making up the 5k/10k distance.

    Health and Safety
Please note that this is an off-road trail and cross country run through public accessed woodland. Conditions can be muddy, wet and slippery underfoot and care should be when negotiating the more difficult areas of the course. Please note that members of the public will be using the woods and care should be taken around people using the wood on the day. If you have off road trail running shoes please use them. Normal running shoes are fine but you’ll need to give them good clean afterwards!

    Any changes
