London marathon 2015
May 15, 2015
We were delighted to receive place in the London Marathon with Rich Hillam from our long term corporate partner Jaywing taking on the challenge. Cavendish receives just one place every three years in the marathon so were delighted to receive a call from Karl Lindley who had gained his own place. Though neither Karl or Rich were going to trouble the elite runners that wasn’t what it was all about, we were really impressed with the dedication and effort they both showed in the their fundraising and training. Rich said of his experience
“The London marathon is an event everyone should experience at least once. The day from start to finish was fantastic. From the starting gun the support is none stop, a wall of cheering and shouting. When the dark points hit which for me was 21 miles, the crowd, and knowing I was raising money for such a worthwhile charity kept me going when my head was telling me to quit!
Finally heading down the Mall and crossing the finish line made all the months of hard work and pain worth every minute, and an achievement no one can ever take away.
Thank you again Cavendish for such an amazing opportunity.”
Karl also described his day as one the of the positive things he has ever done and was made even more special by an impromptu welcoming party that greeted him as he passed through Doncaster train station on the way home. His Mum brother Kurt and other family members gave him a cheer for his efforts on the way through.
We’d like to say a massive thanks to Karl and Rich for all the cold dark nights they put in training making every penny of the £3000 they raised between them well earned. With money still coming in they have made a massive difference to local people affected by cancer.
