Dorota, our Lockdown Legend!
October 26, 2020
Dorota took to the hills in September and has raised £2,022 (and counting!) for Cavendish Cancer Care
Dorota knew she wanted to fundraise for Cavendish Cancer Care when two of her close friends were diagnosed with cancer, and benefitted from our therapies for care and support. And in order to do so, she wanted to really push herself to the limits and embark on a serious outdoors challenge.
After her organised ultra-marathon was cancelled, she plotted an entire 50k ultra-marathon herself! With a team of friends and family to support her, it didn’t take long for this solo challenge to turn into a real event. Dorota created her own map and took to social media to shout about what she was doing. Her friends had even set up bake sales at work to raise yet more pennies for Cavendish services. The extreme challenge, which saw Dorota start at 8:30am at Castleton in the Peak District, offered her some serious hills to contend with! “I knew it was going to be brutal, but I think I underestimated the elevation! And then I remembered why I was doing it and who I was doing it for. It was a huge responsibility and a great motivator.”
Dorota arrived back at Castleton at 8pm, completing her 50k fell run in 12 hours! But how did she feel? “The endorphins were flowing. I was really happy that it had finished, overwhelming happiness. I would absolutely do it again and again!” Thanks to Dorota’s amazing hard work and the efforts of all her supporters, she has more than doubled her original fundraising target.
