  • Cavendish and The Sharks ‘Tip Off’ in Style

    November 13, 2023

Cavendish Cancer Care started its new partnership with pro-basketball team the Sheffield Sharks in style with CEO Emma Draper alongside Cavendish staff, clients and supporters attending a game at the newly built Canon Medical Arena.

Guest of honour was 7-year-old Joshua Collins and his family, who enjoyed courtside seats and a chance to meet the players. Joshua has recently had the all-clear after 3 years of treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, during which the family was supported by Cavendish Cancer Care.

Cavendish will be the official charity partner for the Sheffield Sharks, the Sheffield Hatters and the newly built Canon Medical Arena – the state-of-the-art new home for both teams.

Over the two years of the partnership, Cavendish will work alongside both teams to develop fundraising opportunities, raise awareness of the work of the charity and offer wellbeing support to the teams and local communities. Cavendish will also work closely with LivingCare, a private sector healthcare provider operating a diagnostic clinic on-site at the arena.

Emma Draper, CEO of Cavendish Cancer Care, said; “We’re absolutely thrilled to partner with The Sharks and The Hatters and we are especially excited to be involved in the new arena. It’s a great time for us to get on board and we’re looking forward to seeing what opportunities will develop over the next two years. We had a great time at the game and look forward to many more!”

October 2023 saw the Sharks move into their long-awaited, purpose-built home at the Canon Medical Arena –the UK’s first carbon-neutral built arena – which is housed at the Olympic Legacy Park in the Attercliffe area of Sheffield. Alongside multi-sports courts, the new arena offers a unique Medical and Diagnostic Clinic, operated by healthcare provider LivingCare, offering a range of medical and scanning services to the local sports community, NHS patients and elite athletes.

Sarah Backovic, Managing Director of the Sheffield Sharks said, “We’re really looking forward to our partnership with Cavendish Cancer Care as we take our commitment to the health and well-being of our players, fans and community seriously. Cavendish are a forward-thinking local charity with an impeccable reputation, and I look forward to working together to make a difference to local communities in Sheffield.”
