Fundraising Challenges
The generosity and support of local people and organisations is crucial to keeping our therapies free for the 1,700 families we care for each year. We know that everyone’s experience is different, and believe that no one should face cancer alone. We work to improve the quality of life for people living with cancer, as well as that of their families, by providing bespoke physical and emotional support when they need it most.
Do you want to get involved and support a local, independent charity dedicated to supporting people affected by cancer? Have you fundraised for us before and need some inspiration for what to do next? THANK YOU! Here are some ideas for events you could get involved in:
Run, walk or cycle
Why not fundraise while setting yourself a personal challenge? Whether you’re looking to get fit, reignite an old hobby, or just see some stunning countryside, an active challenge is a great opportunity to fundraise for us. Here’s some ideas to get your legs moving:
Walk
Trekfest in the Brecon Beacons or Peak District
Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Lake District 24 Peak Challenge
Looking for something spectacular? What about an Icelandic Lava Trek or the Inca Trail Trek in Peru?
Run
10 k – you can sign up to 10k races all over the country (and further afield!). Every year we have great local support at the Sheffield 10k and are so grateful to our runners and those who come out to support them.
Looking for more of a challenge? Why not try the Yorkshire 10 mile, Great North Run or the Great Manchester Run.
Really looking for a challenge? Then why not take on a marathon. Popular ones include the London, Brighton and Yorkshire marathons – or why not try something a bit different? Like the beautiful Loch Ness Marathon; the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromso, Norway, that sets off at midnight on the summer solstice; or even the ET Full Moon marathon that takes place on the Extraterrestrial Highway just outside Area 51 in Nevada, USA.
Fancy running, navigating obstacles, and getting caked in mud at the same time? Who doesn’t!? Take a look at Tough Mudder or Total Warrior events.
Cycle
Cycling challenges and sportives for advanced riders:
Land’s end to John O’Groats – a casual 1,000 miles
Etape du Dales – a 110 mile ride through the Yorkshire Dales
For a really extreme challenge, why not see the world and cycle an overseas challenge
Looking to take on more than one event at a time? Why not try a triathlon, or if you’re really brave, an Ironman.
Daredevils and thrill seekers
Standard challenge not enough for you? Fancy facing your fears for a great cause? Have a look at our ideas for extreme activities:
The UK’s highest freefall abseil at the Olympic Park
The World’s fastest zipline, in Penrhyn Slate Quarry, Wales
Abseil, bungee jump or zipwire (or do all three!) at the Abyss at Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.
Ever wanted to jump out of a plane? Try skydiving!
Or if you’d rather stay on the plane, have a look at wing walking.
Why not take on a challenge with friends or family. The Ultra Challenge Series hosts events across the country which you can walk, jog or run, individually or in a team, over a distance of 25, 50 or 100 kilometres.
If you’re local to Sheffield, you’ll be no stranger to climbing hills – take that to the extreme by climbing Kilimanjaro.
However you choose to support us, thank you. Your commitment and dedication to our cause is vital. Together, we can help local people and their families when they need it most.
If you sign up for any of these challenges big or small we’d be extremely grateful and want to support you along the way, just drop us a line to hello@cavcare.org.uk or call 0114 275 4070 and we’ll help with sponsorship, t-shirts or whatever you need.
