  • Enhancing Employee Wellbeing at Kitlocker

In March 2023, Cavendish Wellbeing partnered with Kitlocker to introduce a series of wellbeing services aimed at improving employee engagement and happiness. This case study explores the journey, challenges, and successes of this collaboration.

    How it started

Our journey with Kitlocker began with an initial discussion where we introduced our Wellbeing Focus talks. Tori and Deryn, key employees at Kitlocker, were immediately enthusiastic about the idea and wanted to get involved straightaway. We planned three sessions for the year: Eating Well on a Budget, Understanding Stress, and Improving Sleep. Additionally, we scheduled a Laughter Yoga session with our therapist Toby in December.

    Turning challenges into triumphs

Before partnering with us, Kitlocker had a ‘Kitlocker Forum’ where they discussed various topics like saving tips and ISAs. However, they felt they were “winging it” and needed expert guidance to provide valuable life tips. By rebranding their forum and bringing in our expertise, we were able to significantly increase attendance and engagement. This also allowed Kitlocker to support therapy for Cavendish Cancer Care, adding a philanthropic element to their wellbeing initiatives.

    The Kitlocker Transformation

The impact of our collaboration has been profound. Employees at Kitlocker have embraced trying new things and openly discussing issues they might not have otherwise. The Laughter Yoga session before Christmas 2023 was a standout event, lifting everyone’s spirits and fostering connections across different departments. The Understanding Stress session was another highlight, with around 15 attendees, including one employee who struggles with stress and anxiety. It was heartening to see people openly share their struggles, even if it helped just one person.

Eyes on the Future: What’s Next?

Looking ahead to the rest of 2024/2025, Kitlocker has already booked four more focus talks and four spots on Mental Health First Aid. They are also excited to include more laughter yoga sessions. Additionally, three members from the Kitlocker team attended one of our two-day Mental Health First Aid sessions. Having Mental Health First Aiders in the business will be invaluable for Kitlocker, providing extra support to the wellbeing of their employees and ensuring that there are trained individuals available to assist with mental health concerns.

Tori and Deryn’s proactive approach to health and wellbeing, viewing it as a crucial element of employee engagement and happiness, has been instrumental in the success of these initiatives. They ensure that the sessions are open to everyone in the team and involve the team in deciding which sessions would be most beneficial.

    Celebrating success: Continuing the Journey

Our partnership with Kitlocker has been a testament to the positive impact that focused wellbeing initiatives can have on a workplace. From coordinating sessions to providing promotional materials, our team has worked seamlessly to support Kitlocker’s goals. We are excited to continue this journey and look forward to the rest of 2024! We are thrilled to announce that Kitlocker has just been shortlisted for the Outstanding Contribution to Employee Health and Wellbeing award at the Sheffield Business Awards. This recognition is a testament to their commitment to fostering a healthy and supportive work environment.
