Owls youngsters’ fundraising boost for Cavendish

Sheffield Wednesday’s summer National Citizen’s Service (NCS) participants raised over £3,500 for Cavendish Cancer Care. Over their summer NCS course, based at the football club, the students took part in a variety of fundraising initiatives.

Lucy Shuttleworth, NCS Manager at Sheffield Wednesday, said: “It’s been an amazing summer for the club’s Community Programme, having the biggest programme in Sheffield has been a great achievement for us. It is fantastic to see what our young people on the NCS programme can achieve when given the right tools and guidance. It has been a pleasure working with Cavendish Cancer Care to raise more than £3,500 for such a worthy cause. We are very proud of all our participant’s commitment and enthusiasm for the programme and their fundraising efforts.”

Chris Farrell, Chief Executive at Cavendish Cancer Care, said: “The money that the NCS participants raised is fantastic. What’s even more fantastic is to see young people being genuinely excited to support a local, independent charity. We’re so grateful to everybody at the NCS project and to Sheffield Wednesday for their ongoing support. We rely on the generosity of local people to support others affected by cancer.”

“The amount raised will provide 140 hours of therapy to local people affected by cancer in our region. The NCS students and staff should be very proud of their achievements.”
