  • Carly’s year long fundraising mission

    June 12, 2020

Friend of Cavendish, Carly Honeycombe, has decided rather than select one event for 2020, she’s going to complete several smaller ones.

Abbeydale Brewery’s Events Manager, Carly, has a personal connection to Cavendish and says “I can see people’s lives being dramatically affected if Cavendish wasn’t there”. After being diagnosed in 2015 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Carly accessed the free of charge services for reflexology and healing.

At the time, she wrote: “It is my belief that we need to raise two things to help a charity not only sustain itself, but to grow; money (of course) and awareness. I chose to get involved as I think it’s vital that more people are aware of them. I was lucky that I already was, you get so much information within those first few weeks of a diagnosis, it’s all a bit of a blur. I hope that if someone reads my story it registers on different level in some way.”

The Brewery have taken part and hosted lots of fundraising events in aid of Cavendish over the last couple of years. From Beer Festivals, dedicated charity pints, and they even managed to get 10 of the team to take part in the Sheffield 10k. In 2020, the team decided to take on their biggest challenge yet – The Sheffield Half Marathon. Unfortunately due to Covid-19, the event has been postponed until September 2020, however this hasn’t stopped Carly keeping up her challenge.

Starting with our annual Sheffield Together event in March, Carly has run miles and miles in aid of Cavendish. In May, she decided to take it one step further (and make the most of the hot weather) and run a mile for every £1 donated between the London Marathon date (26th April) and 1st May. Her wonderful family and friends sponsored her an incredible £186 during those few days, meaning 186 miles to be ran in the month of May!

Her 2020 target is £800, enough to cover the cost of two courses of therapy and a bit left over for tea and biscuits! She’s currently raised £546 and we’re excited to see what she’s going to do next. Keep up to date on her next challenge and perhaps even donate a quid or two here – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/carly-honeycombe

A huge heartfelt Thank You to Carly and the team at Abbeydale Brewery for their continued support for Cavendish, to ensure we can continue to help more families affected by cancer.
