Why we need to fundraise
We currently support around 1,600 families each year and last we helped our 22,000th person, but we know that there is much more we could be doing. There are over 45,000 people already living with and beyond cancer in our region, and in South Yorkshire alone another 8,900 will be diagnosed this year, which equates to one person every hour. Many thousands more will be affected by their diagnoses and we want every one of them to know they can count on our support, but we simply cannot do this without the generosity of the local community.
We work closely with local NHS healthcare providers, not least in delivering our outreach services in a range of locations across Sheffield’s hospitals. We are also delighted that national statutory bodies are recognising more than ever before the value of the type of support we offer. In their cancer strategy for England the Independent Cancer Taskforce states that, “The experience and quality of life that patients have through and beyond diagnosis and treatment is equally as important as clinical effectiveness.” However we receive only enough statutory funding to keep our doors open for three weeks each year. Given below are some examples of the impact you could have on our ability to support local families affected by cancer.
£9 per month will help keep our therapy rooms open
£27 pays for a pain management session for a cancer patient.
£380 covers all the costs associated with providing a complete package of Cavendish Care and support.
