  • Cancer Information Hub re-opening in the Moor Market

    August 19, 2020

The Sheffield Cancer Information Hub is a drop-in centre providing information and support about cancer for residents of Sheffield, in a non-clinical setting. Run by Cavendish Cancer Care this is a place to have a casual conversation about cancer and find out what services are available to you. The hub brings together local services such as NHS Sheffield CCG, Macmillan Cancer Support, Cavendish Cancer Care and many other charitable and voluntary groups.

We are a friendly drop in support and signposting hub, for anyone of any age, affected by cancer, living with & beyond cancer and anyone supporting someone affected by cancer. We open 11-2 Monday to Friday except bank holidays. We have info from lots of voluntary organisations offering a wide range of support. We start with a conversation about your needs and support you to access services, information or just a chat about how you are feeling. We run monthly pop ups to tell people about a service eg. Carers week with Sheffield Carers and Young Carers or cancer awareness events like Think Pink for Breast Cancer in October , when all the Moor Market traders dress in Pink and raise money for Breast Cancer Now. We have paper copies of eg Weston Park Cancer charity, Age UK & Macmillan leaflets if you don’t have access to the Internet. We can show you how to use your phone or gadget to get cancer info on line.

We are pleased to be re-opening on Wednesday 2nd September having been closed due to lockdown.

For customer and staff safety we now be open Monday to Friday from 11am until 2pm. You might notice a few changes, staffing mask and visor and will talk to you through perspex screen. You will not be able to walk into the hub. We have a text screen if you are hard of hearing or staff can use a phone link to your mobile. If someone is already talking to staff, please respect social distance of 2m and keep to the waiting points marked by floor stickers. This protects our customers in a queue. Our staff will happily provide leaflets and information safely from the hub after finding out what you need. We’ll explain how to collect them safely from a regularly sanitised collection table. They will not have been handled by anyone except staff who are observing cover safe hand washing and sanitising. Thanks for your support and patience during these difficult times, help us to help our visitors.
We look forward to welcoming you back.

We use our social media and community contacts to tell people about Cancer services & support groups , and we have had visitors to the hub from all over South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire who take information back to people who need it . We often get people from overseas who are visiting Sheffield on holiday or for work, who call in to ask for info.

We have info in a number of languages and are keen to ensure we meet the needs of all local communities, so we really like your suggestions and feedback. Please do come and visit the hub. Don’t forget your mask or face covering as you need this to come into the Moor Market at the moment.
